About Us

The Laughing Gull is a Maine family run business, owned and operated by brothers Aaron and Peter Cheesman, their wives Emily and Jessica, their 8 children between them,, and a wonderful, dedicated staff.

The concept for the store comes from family time spent on the special coast of Maine. The inspiration came from memories of reading timeless children's books along the rocky coast, where the authors characters were as fascinating and unique as the coast of Maine. The Laughing Gull was named after the seabirds commonly found along the Maine shore that symbolize the joy and carefree spirit of childhood often found in these books.

The selection of clothing and gifts (and children's books!) is meant to offer something for everyone in the family, from the youngest to the oldest, to remember their time in Maine.
